Why wouldn’t you add a couple of bacon slices? I don’t know. Wouldn’t make any sense at all.
Per 1 sandwich:
- 2 Slices of good-quality bread
- 2 Slices of Gruyere cheese
- 4 Slices of thinly-sliced tart apple
- Butter, for frying
Butter slices of good-quality bread. Layer Gruyere cheese and thinly sliced tart apples and top with another slice of the buttered bread. Cook the sandwiches in a few tablespoons of melted butter – you can use a panini press or an ordinary skillet, turning once, until the cheese has melted and the bread is golden brown on both sides, about 8 minutes total.
